This year’s African Fashion Week Toronto was an amazing first experience for me. The event took place at The Bram & Bluma Appel Salon.I attended the Student Designer Competition that took place on Saturday and the African Fashion Industry Awards. In this post, I’ll be talking about the Student Designer Competition. There was the Red Carpet picture taking session, then we got to see some delightful Vendors with alluring pieces and finally, The show🙂
On this day, I was only able to visit two of the vendors, I’ll put down brief descriptions about their pieces and later on do a spotlight feature on both of them🙂
Kuwala is an online boutique offering ready to wear, blended African and Western apparel, as well as accessories for men and women.Originating from the Malawian language of Chichewa, the words “ku wala” mean “to shine,” while “ku vala” means “to wear”. We want you to shine with confidence in our ready to wear designs.
Eloli is a luxury fashion and lifestyle brand, established in 2013. Eloli means “it is beautiful” in Bafaw, a language spoken in Cameroon. Headed by 3 sisters, Dibo, Sume and Fese, the brand incorporates their love for luxury, colour and pattern. Through Eloli they channel their shared passion introducing an authentic contemporary African aesthetic to every day design.
Now for this part, you’ll have to pardon me, I was only able to capture 3 designers and also not all their pieces too, It was my first time capturing movement with my camera, and it was a hassle! I had to wait till the models were still lol! I’ve learnt and next time I’ll do a way better job I promise.🙂
