#Spotlight Interview with Sudbury Transit App’s creator Steeve St. Fleur

Give a brief bio. about yourself.: I am originally from Haiti and I came to Canada to study. I studied computer networking and programming. I lived 5 years in the USA before coming to Canada!

How did you go about making and designing apps?: I started because I learned by doing so I decided to take a summer and learn how to make android apps! At first it was really difficult, but after a few weeks it got easier and easier. Now the same simple app that took me the whole summer to figure out will take me less than a week now.

Anything else you do?: I am also pretty good at Photoshop and After Effects. I made the videos that is currently showing on my app! I also do posters for parties and events sometimes.

How many apps have you made so far? what are they? brief descriptions, are they compatible with all phone types?I did try to make other apps (only on Android so far) but I have not made anything as successful as the Sudbury Transit app! I was thinking of making an app that would be like the Laurentian Share-Ride group on facebook, just don’t know if it would work and if it would be well received!

Tell us about Sudbury Transit app, what does it do? how does it work? where can one download it from?:

The Sudbury Transit app is made to help the people in Sudbury take the bus. We all know how hard that can be in Sudbury when you need to take the bus and sometimes have to wait for it 10 or 20 minutes specially during winter! The first page of the app tells when busses leave downtown, then we have “Bus Times” that allows a user to find out when a bus arrives at the stop you’re currently at. In that same feature we also have a page to say when the school bus arrives! Then we also have “Bus Schedule” where a user has access to the offline bus schedule. Lastly we also have a fourth feature “Favorites” where your favorite stops can be saved. I also have ads on the app, and for a small fee you can remove them forever!

Do you have any apps in the making right now? if so, what are they? brief descriptions.: I do want to make more Transit apps, I know that this year Montreal is planning to add GPS on their busses just like in Sudbury to allow real time tracking! I would love to create an app just like Sudbury Transit for Montreal!

To wrap up this brief interview, tell us a favorite motivational quote of yours: I have a few but this is one of my preferred ones: “Luck is what happens when preparation meets opportunity.” and “Success is not measured by what you accomplish, but by the opposition you have encountered, and the courage with which you have maintained the struggle against overwhelming odds.”
