#Spotlight Saturday Morning Show – Miscarriage

On this episode, we talk about Miscarriages. I sit down with my friend Deola and we talk about Miscarriage.

Growing up in Nigeria, between faith and culture; we simply don’t talk about miscarriages;as if perhaps, if we kept in in the hushed moments of grief, it’ll go away. No one teaches you how to be emotionally or mentally prepared for it.

A couple of weeks ago, I accompanied my co-worker to the hospital because she thought she was about to lose her baby- nothing prepares you for a moment like this. I stayed in the hospital for hours with her, and with each passing minute, I began to think of the many other women who have had the same experience.

Research taught me that as many as 70% of conceptions end up in miscarriages. It also shows that many women, miscarry, never even knowing that they had conceived. Women often blame themselves, assuming that they ‘did something wrong’.
