TRUE LOVE MEETS TRADITION AT CANADA’S FIRST AFRICAN WEDDING SHOW
Ambessa Weddings has announced the launch of The African Wedding Show, Canada’s first ever bridal event for the African community, in Toronto on March 12. This wedding show is intended to serve a largely overlooked demographic in the bridal industry: African Canadians. With roughly 550,000 African Canadians in Ontario alone, the event is expected to draw thousands looking to connect with wedding vendors that specialize in and understand their cultural traditions. As the country’s first wedding show to cater to the African Canadian community, The African Wedding Show will showcase both traditional and modern wedding themes.

The day begins with the exclusive Bridal Brunch at 11 a.m., where newly engaged couples can relax and sip mimosas as they mingle with vendors and enjoy the comedic stylings of event host Filmon “Gergish” Yohannes, a well-known African Canadian comedian. At 1 p.m., the doors open to the public, offering an afternoon of fun and entertainment, including a multicultural fashion show unveiling the latest bridal collections from leading African designers. “Ambessa Weddings is thrilled to present Canada’s premiere bridal show to serve the African Canadian community. This event will help newly engaged couples find vendors for their wedding, and give dozens of businesses the opportunity to meet clients and showcase their work,” says Laba Menghistab, founder of Ambessa Weddings. “In the African community, we rely heavily on word-of-mouth to find customers or to find a business. But what happens if you don’t know whom to ask? This is an opportunity for some of the 200,000 Africans living in Toronto to connect with these vendors in person.” “Statistics Canada estimates that the African Canadian population is set to double by 2031, and this community often has very unique needs and traditions when it comes to weddings,” adds Laba, “so we’re inviting businesses serving ethnic brides to showcase their products and deepen their relationship to this rapidly growing community.” Note: Complementary media access to the event is available upon request.
