#IWearAfricanFashion | A Campaign to Promote African Fashion

Hi, my name is Yvonne Ben and I wear African Fashion.

*Everyone says “Hello Yvonne Ben*

African fashion to me is a lifestyle and I created this campaign for all you African fashion lovers like myself.

My love for the culture goes way back. When I moved to Canada for school, I came with a box full of ready made African pieces and would rock them! Back in my university days, *What’s up Laurentian* I was very well known for wearing my vibrant prints to class. I always had people walk up to me and ask me where I got my outfits from, some people even assumed I was from Toronto because of how eccentric my style was, basically anywhere you saw Yvonne Ben you were prepared for some African print goodness.😉

Processed with Snapseed.

Fast track to 2014, when I heard about African Fashion Week Toronto! An event that promotes African Fashion in Toronto? Say no more! I got a ticket and went down and was obviously wowed! The growth of the African fashion industry in the world right now is amazing and what used to be a hassle for me to  slay in African prints now became easier.

This campaign is to encourage you all to go out there and slay in your African prints!

I came to slay!

I decided to put together 4 different African fashion inspired outfits for the everyday scenario. I have a stylist who is always on point so I took some lessons from our many sessions and styled all four looks. What’s up Memkoh🙂

Outfit 1 {Red carpet semi Formal Event, Semi casual event etc}

Choker from Mahostyle / Off shoulder top by  ÖFUURË / Skirt by LAVIYE / Shoes from my Memkoh Box Subscription

Why are you trying so hard to fit in, when you were born to stand out?” – Ian Wallace.

Outfit 2 { A night out with friends, Artsy event etc}

Long sleeve turtle neck crop from Forever 21 / Overalls from my closet / Shoe from Aldo

” One man’s weird is another man’s swag” – Yvonne Ben

Outfit 3 {Networking Event, The Movies, Church etc}

Choker from Mahostyle // Off shoulder top from ÖFUURË // Pants from American Apparel // Shoes from my Memkoh Box Subscription

“Making simple things in a beautiful way and making beautiful things in a simple way is my idea of modernity” – Thula Sindi

Outfit 4 {Date night, Events, Dinners}

Turtle neck from Reitmans // Skirt from Kwesiya Clothing // Shoes from my Memkoh box subscription

“Fashion is life and just like life, you must always express your feelings freely.” – Amanda Ndiaye

Love African fashion? Post a picture on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram etc of you killing it in your African pieces with the hashtag #IWearAfricanFashion, telling what you love about African Fashion. Let’s get African Fashion trending!

When anyone likes the post, tell them to post a picture of themselves in African fashion and they do same🙂

Today is special day not only because of this campaign but also because it’s my birthday!

*does the shoki*

{inside nigerian joke, watch this to understand}

So I’d love to thank you for stopping by and sharing this moment.

Please help me get the word out by sharing this post.

Thank you and God bless you!
