Hi KScope Fam! My name is Madinah and I’ll be coming here every month to talk everything and anything fashion. From style tips and industry trends, to what new brands you need to look out for, or simply what lessons I have learned from fashion. I’m really excited to have this space where we can gist and share secrets. I’m not exactly sure what conversations we will get up to but I know they will be great. I bet you’re probably wondering now, who is this? Who is Madinah? And why is she coming here to talk fashion and style tips? Well, I’m glad you asked.
I have always had a love and appreciation for fashion. As long as I can remember I have been working to get myself as close to fashion as I could. I didn’t think I could ever make a life out of fashion. That was something, I thought was reserved for people who did not look like me. The arts as a career in my mind, was a luxury only afforded to people whose parents were not immigrants. So instead I watched others pursue the dreams I wouldn’t dare claim as my own. Until one day all of that changed.
Roughly two years ago, I decided I would not be held back by my heritage. I would not be held back by my culture, my religion or my gender. I would find a way to have fashion as a pillar in my life. I wanted to live the life I had been too afraid to admit I wanted. I was tired of just celebrating the ones who did it. I wanted to do it too. So, I enrolled in a course. I didn’t tell anyone about it. Slowly I began to improve my skill. I already had some experience modelling, but a friend recommended I try my hand at styling. So, very wearily, I did. I took the course and decided to give it my all. Very soon I was in love all over again.
I had found the joy. I had found what makes my “freak flag fly” so to speak. If you are confused by this phrase it is something I try to live by and I have a post about this on my instagram here, where I share lots of style tips as well as my journey in the industry. I wanted to learn as much as I could. I was enthralled. I needed to soak up as much knowledge and experience as I could. I am still learning, but the journey has been worth it so far.
Last year I decided I would be among those people who could make a life and a living out of fashion, and I will. I don’t want any other person to feel they can’t, so I will. I hope you’ll come along for the journey and we can learn together. Signing off for now.
