Get to Know Nigerian-born, Toronto Actress, Nengi Adoki

Nengi Adoki (@TheNengers) is a Nigerian-born, Toronto Actress, Director, Singer
and Songwriter who is currently working in Toronto as a cast member with the
Cahoots Theatre for a showcase of Wole Soyinka’s “Death and a King’s
Horseman” directed by Chiamaka Ugwu. It will debut onstage in this January (2017)

Nengi played ‘Arinola’, a role in the popular Nigerian musical stage
sensation; Heartbeat The Musical, produced and directed by Ajoke Silva/Olu
Jacobs and Najite Dede respectively.

She is also best known for her lead role as “Kike Johnson” in the commercially successful “Wakaa The Musical(London’s West-end Edition) in her debut on the Nigerian Musical Theatre Stage last July (2016).

Born “Nengi Elizabeth Adoki” in Rivers State, Port-Harcourt, on January 17th,
1990, Nengi began growing in her theatrical and vocal abilities soon after
completing a Bachelor’s Degree in Performing Arts & Information Technology at
the University of Toronto (2013). She went on to complete a certificate degree in
Performing Arts preparation at Sheridan College (2014) where she graduated
with honours. Soon after, she started a professional career in the industry with
her Toronto based agency, “The Characters” with Larry Goldhar as her agent.
With the agency, she performed in various short films and TV series, most
notable being her principal role on the Canadian TV series “Lost Girl”, Season 5
Episode 12”. She also played an actor role on Lonzo Nzekwe’s “Meet the
parents” a Toronto-shot short film, which recently won Best Short Film at last
year’s AMAA’s (2016) in Port-Harcourt.

While completing her undergraduate degree at the University of Toronto, Nengi
spent 5 years directing, acting and choreographing in her self-produced &
directed shows. Her award-winning show “Sync-Afrique” which she founded in
2009, ran annually for five years (with a break in 2010) until 2014. She was
awarded grants and loans up to $10,000 to run the show successfully.

She founded the acting troupe popularly known as “Just Rich Men” that went on to debut their first collective play, “Just Reach Mehn” at the Mist theatre in the city of Mississauga. At Sheridan College, Nengi starred in many school productions and was recognised for her role in the collective play “The Two of Us”. Nengi moved back to Nigeria in 2015 to continue her passionate pursuit of the Arts as an actress, director, singer and songwriter. She is currently working on new material for her upcoming single, “Love Me”.
