Melapteh releases “The Returnee” Spring/Summer 2019 collection with the African Diaspora in mind

After months of anticipation and overwhelming online engagement, Melapteh releases their 3rd Spring/Summer collection – The Returnee.

This collection highlights modern African-inspired designs inspired by the movement catalyzed by the Year of Return for African Diaspora, as declared by the Republic of Ghana’s president, Nana Akufo-Addo.

Melapteh released their most anticipated and largest collection launch to date. The bold and colorful Returnee collection is the perfect addition to the wardrobe of the woman who wishes to express herself without saying anything.

2019 marks the 400th anniversary of the first slave ship departing the African borders for the Western shores and Melapteh recognizes the numerous Africans of origin across the globe and their quest to stay in touch with their roots.

With The Returnee collection, they are that much closer to their origins thanks to the authentic fabrics sourced from across Africa; including well-known prints such as Bogolan (Mali) and Kente (Ghana) as well as prints native to Cameroon such as Toghu. Mixtures of fabrics, textures and prints is a common theme in this collection as neoprene is introduced into a number of pieces to add structure, fluid movement and a more flattering fit to key pieces.
